What is the biggest fear in this world?
Speech anxiety or Glossophobia is the fear of speaking publicly or in public. It is the number 1 and the biggest fear in this world most of them are facing currently.
Public Speaking Fear Statistics say that “An estimated 5.3 million Americans suffer from a social phobia, with 74% distressed with speech anxiety. Public speaking fear has a 10% impairment in wages as well”.
You may have been there before.
You feel easily frightened and nervous, your palms get sweaty, your stomach ties itself into knots. You don’t want to do it. But you'll be able to overcome this fear of oral presentations with these simple speechmaking tips!
- Visualize success:
Negative thoughts come in mind due to repetitive thinking that may be due to performance pressure. It increases nervousness so instead if we keep on thinking positively and visualize yourself being successful.
- Preparation:
Be well prepared so there is no chance of making any mistakes. Keep on practicing again and again.
- Relax:
Keep yourself calm before your turn. Keep taking deep breaths and stay hydrated.
Message matters: Don't lose your concentration. Be sure the message you want to share reaches your audience.
- Sip Water That’s Warm Or Room Temperature:
If possible Sometimes squeezing some lemon into your water helps very much. It helps lubricate your throat. Try to avoid sugary beverages before speaking. These can dry out your mouth and make it tough to talk.
- Get Rid Fear Of Rejection:
“What if my audience hates my speech? What if they boo me off stage?” Try to eliminate all of your fears related to rejection. The audience is there to listen to you for a reason.
- Avoid Talking or speaking Too Fast:
Talking fast during a speech interferes with your breathing patterns. If you speak very fast you will breathe less. Feeling short of breath or in need of breath will make you panicked and more vulnerable to fear. Practice slowing down while you speak, and you will be moreover calm and relaxed.
- Backup plan:
Once you’re stage friendly you do not need this one. But there are chances sometime you may forget or get blank in that case you need a backup plan. In that, you can have some activities for the audience or ask some questions to them.
Some additional tips:
- Reach on the venue on time Or before time and get friendly to the environment.
- Keep your materials ready a day before.
